Who We Help, and What We Do

Can you work with me if I am under 18?

We do have some therapists who are qualified to work with minors aged 16 and up. With parental or guardian consent and depending on availability, we will work with you to find the right fit.

Do I have to be part of the LGBTQ+ community to work with you?

While we proudly serve the Queer community, we are open to clients of all identities.

Do you see clients who do not speak English?

We have some therapists on staff who are fluent in Spanish, Hindi, and German. Ask us about their availability when you first reach out!

What is your approach to therapy?

All of our therapists have slightly different approaches to therapy which can be found in their bios on our team pages. However, our practice as a whole has a very relational, emotion focused style of therapy that is trauma informed.

Can you write me a letter for an emotional support animal?

We are unable to offer this service at this time unless you have an established relationship with your therapist and they deem it clinically appropriate.

Can you write me a referral letter for gender affirming services?

Expansive Therapy has proudly served hundreds of Trans and Gender Non-Conforming clients throughout the years. Part of our service is our ability to refer interested clients for medical services like surgery or hormones to affirm their gender. If you are seeking these services, you are welcome to discuss this with your therapist. WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health) describes the responsibility of the referring provider as equal to that of the provider who conducts the actual procedure(s). With this in mind, your therapist will work with you in sessions until they feel clinically confident in providing the referral. Every individual's situation is different, so there is no set timeline for receiving a referral letter.

Can you also help me with medication management?

No, as we do not have any psychiatrists on staff. Feel free to ask us for a referral!

Therapy Services

How do I become a client?

You can click on the "Find a Therapist" tab and explore our therapists' bios to see who you resonate with. When you find a match, you can click “Get Started” on the bio page to book your first session. You can also click "Get a Quote" in order to send your insurance information to our office manager, who will check your benefits and send you a fee structure to approve. If you plan to pay out of pocket, therapist fees are laid out clearly on their bio page as well. You can also reach out directly to our Office Manager at info@expansivetherapy.com or 917-426-1521 (text or call). Our office is happy to guide you through the process of getting started.

Can I do a consultation with my therapist before starting sessions?

Yes, we can offer a free 20 minute consultation if you'd like to meet your therapist and make sure it feels like a match before starting sessions. Please reach out to our office manager at 917-426-1521 or info@expansivetherapy.com to request a consultation. If you're planning to use insurance, we will need to check your benefits and you will need to approve your fee structure for therapy before the consultation occurs.

What should I expect during my first session?

First sessions vary, but our goal is to make a connection and create a welcome space where we can get to know a bit about you and what brings you into therapy. We will also cover some nuts and bolts about our approach to therapy, confidentiality, and our cancellation policy.

What happens if the therapist I get matched with doesn’t feel like the right fit?

If your therapist doesn’t feel like the right match, not to worry. You are always welcome to switch to a different therapist within the practice. Simply reach out to our office manager at info@expansivetherapy.com and we’ll be happy to match you with another therapist.

What if I have an emergency or crisis?

Our rates vary based on the experience level of the therapist. Out of pocket costs range from $75-250 per session. Each therapist has their out of pocket cost listed on their bio page.

Do you offer sliding scale?

Our prices for each clinician are firm, but rates vary greatly based on the experience level of the therapist. Our lowest tier is $75/session.

Are there any cancellation fees?
