We founded Expansive Therapy with two missions. One was to provide truly affirming, high quality therapy to the LGBTQ+ population. The other was to solve the logistical problems that keep so many people from starting or staying in therapy. We wanted to take care of the burdensome details of the therapy process so that our clients could focus on the therapy itself.

8 years later, we’re still working hard to accomplish those missions and we’re proud of how far we’ve come. Here are 9 ways that we make therapy easier and better for our clients:

  1. We check your mental health benefits for you.

If you’re using insurance (PPO and POS plans), our admin team is standing by ready to check your mental health benefits and lay out a simple fee structure for you. They are also happy to answer any insurance related questions you might have before getting started.

  1. We are affordable.

We offer a variety of rates based on the experience level of your therapist and our average rate is 40% below industry standards for New York and California.

  1. We are 100% queer owned and make LGBTQ affirming space our top priority.

Most of our therapists are queer identified and all of us are passionate about queer healing and empowerment. We regularly attend trainings and work together weekly in supervision to ensure affirming care.

  1. We only hire the best.

Unlike big therapy companies who focus primarily on growth, we have a rigorous selection process and hire less than 10% of applicants.

  1. We submit claims for you and deal with insurance issues.

We have a fantastic insurance team working behind the scenes to alleviate the stress that insurance companies put on the therapy process.

We submit all your insurance claims on your behalf and take the lead on dealing with insurance issues that come up such as claim denials, so you can focus on the therapy.

  1. We are a group practice and we work together.

We are a true group practice, unlike most of the big therapy companies who contract out therapists. This means your therapist receives various types of support so that they can show up more fully for you.

  1. We offer free consults.

Finding the right match in a therapist can be difficult and stressful. We encourage you to make sure your therapist is the right match for you over a free 20 minute consultation.

  1. We have both online and in person options.

If you prefer therapy from the comfort of your home, online therapy is available for anyone in New York and California. If you prefer to see your therapist in person, we have offices in Manhattan and Los Angeles.

  1. We have immediate openings.

You can start therapy as soon as this week.

If you’re interested in starting therapy with us, our admin team is standing by ready to guide you through the process. No bots here, only real people who are passionate about queer mental health.
