How Do We Handle Our Internal Weather?
Gentle Ways to Support Yourself on Cloudy Days
You're Not Doing Life Wrong
We are not meant to be happy all the time. Life can be challenging, sad, or upsetting. On down days, it’s easy to feel like something’s gone wrong. But the truth is, we each have an internal universe with its own weather system—sometimes sunny, sometimes cloudy, occasionally stormy, and often calm.
We are meant to experience the full spectrum. Just like the sky, we can hold it all.
How Do We Handle Our Internal Weather?
Some days, you wake up feeling low for no clear reason. Your energy is heavy and slow. Nothing is technically wrong, but everything feels... off. These are what I call low vibration days—when your inner sky is overcast.
When you’re in this state, your mind often reflects the weather: self-critical thoughts, old sad stories, or a sense that nothing is working out. It can be a bummer.
Low Vibration Days = Negative Thinking
This isn’t the time to make big decisions or have a difficult conversation. This is the time to get very gentle with yourself and find ways to comfort yourself that are not self-sabotaging.
The quickest way through a low mood is not to resist it—but to accept it with compassion.
Try saying this out loud:
“I notice that I’m feeling low today.”
In doing so, you may discover that there’s a part of you experiencing the sadness, and another part of you that can witness it. That awareness creates space for softness.
Accepting the feeling allows it to move through you. Resisting it only nails it into place. Getting angry at yourself for feeling bad is like yelling at the rain—it doesn’t make the clouds disappear any faster.
Gentle Ways to Support Yourself on Cloudy Days
Here are a few kind, simple actions that can help you move through low vibration days with care:
Take a warm bath
Watch a funny movie or show
Call an understanding friend
Take a nap
Journal or doodle without judgment
In behavioral therapy, there's an emphasis on changing behaviors to influence emotions. Actions like breathwork, movement, connection, or even smiling (yes—smile therapy is real!) can help shift your internal state in gentle, supportive ways.
You’re Not Doing Life Wrong
Having low vibration days doesn’t mean you’re broken—or that you’re doing life wrong. Quite the opposite.
Doing life well means you’re aware of what’s happening inside of you, and you respond with gentleness, not judgment. You celebrate the joyful days, and you stay present with yourself on the harder ones.
And remember: no feeling is final. Storms pass. Sunlight returns.
If the cloudy days begin to outnumber the clear ones, it may be time to reach out for support. A therapist can help you navigate your internal weather and develop tools that work for you.
We are here for you.
