Facilitated by queer, trauma-informed therapists. Built for people who want community without performance, pressure, or pretense.
Explore Group Offerings
Group therapy offers something individual sessions can’t: connection with others who get it. At Expansive, our LGBTQ+ group therapy sessions are designed for real conversations in real time about identity, boundaries, grief, sex, visibility, family, and everything in between. They're intentional spaces, led by experienced therapists like Megan and Blair in California, with additional groups facilitated by our NYC-based team.
Most groups run weekly for 75 to 90 minutes, either in-person at our Los Angeles office or online for clients across California. Some are open-ended, while others run for a set number of weeks. We offer general queer process groups and identity-specific sessions, including those for queer women, gay men, and TGNC folks. Groups launch based on interest. When there’s enough momentum, we build a new offering.
If you’re looking for a space to speak honestly and be heard, this might be the place.
Join a Group or Get Notified
We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy, especially not in group work. At Expansive, LGBTQ group therapy is shaped by the people in the room. Our facilitators come in prepared but never scripted. We create structure where it’s needed, and leave space where it’s not. That means making room for grief, laughter, callouts, contradictions, and everything that doesn’t fit neatly into an agenda.
Whether you're joining an identity-specific group or a general queer process space, the intention is the same: to build honest connection without performance. Our LA-based therapists bring deep experience with trauma, relational dynamics, and queer community work. You won’t be asked to explain your pronouns, justify your relationships, or flatten your story to fit the format.
Learn More About Our Approach
Most groups meet weekly for 75–90 minutes, either online or in-person at our Larchmont Village office in Los Angeles. We cap group size to keep things spacious, not overwhelming. You’ll join a consistent group of people and work with one dedicated therapist throughout the run.
The work is shaped by the group’s shared needs. Sometimes that means unpacking family dynamics or identity shifts; other times it’s about building relational tools, navigating visibility, or naming anger without apology. Some groups are open-ended; others run for a defined number of weeks. When there’s enough interest in a particular topic or identity focus, we launch a new cohort. If you’re not sure what’s right for you, reach out, and we’ll help you figure it out, no pressure.

Why LA Clients Choose Expansive for LGBTQ Group Therapy
Clients come to us because they’re tired of being the only queer or trans person in the room, or the only one naming hard things out loud. Expansive is known for groups that go deeper than surface-level support.
Our therapists are trained, yes, but more importantly, they’re present. They engage, redirect, and challenge when needed. We’re intentional about who facilitates each group, how they’re formed, and how they evolve over time.
Whether you're joining virtually from Silver Lake or showing up in person from West Hollywood, you’ll find a space that doesn’t flatten your identity, tokenize your story, or force you to educate others before you can get to your own work.
"Megan is a true gem of a therapist. She is very real and down to earth. Patient, warm and compassionate, while also unafraid to provide a little push at times which I really appreciate in a therapist. Her intuition and insight are really on point. I definitely recommend her highly."

Group therapy at Expansive is eligible for out-of-network insurance reimbursement, just like our individual sessions. If you have a PPO or POS plan, we’ll verify your benefits up front and let you know what to expect. Our admin team handles claims so you don’t have to chase paperwork or spend your lunch break on hold with your provider.
We’ll walk you through the cost of the group you’re joining, and whether it’s ongoing or time-limited. You’ll always know what you're paying before the first session. And if a group isn’t reimbursable through your insurance, we’ll be upfront about that too.

Expansive Therapy supports clients across both California and New York.
Our LGBTQ group therapy options are available virtually for New York residents, facilitated by licensed or pre-licensed clinicians in the state. Whether you’re in Brooklyn, Manhattan, or upstate, you can join a group that reflects your lived experience, not one that asks you to water it down. We’ll let you know what groups are forming or when a new one is launching in your area.
