Learn About Codependency Therapy
You might feel like you're “too caring” or “too attached,” but codependency therapy can unlock more than that. This therapy allows you to identify relational patterns where your sense of self becomes entangled with someone else’s needs, moods, or approval.
In LGBTQ+ communities, codependent dynamics can form as a way to survive invalidation by over-giving, staying small, or becoming indispensable in relationships. LGBTQ codependency therapy helps you explore how those patterns developed and guides you in rebuilding connection that includes your own boundaries, desires, and emotional safety.
Talk to Someone Who Gets It
We work with clients who are untangling decades of people-pleasing, emotional caretaking, or identity confusion that stems from complex relational histories, often layered with queer-specific experiences like family rejection, cultural shame, or trauma.
At Expansive, our therapists understand how deeply codependency can be tied to survival strategies, not flaws. Together, we focus on healing with compassion while helping you practice new ways of being in connection that honor both your autonomy and your care for others.
Meet Our Practice
In the early stages of therapy, you’ll start noticing how certain patterns show up in your day-to-day relationships. For example, you might notice difficulty saying no, constant guilt, or fear of being alone.
We’ll work with you to name and understand these dynamics without shame, while gradually rebuilding your ability to set boundaries, feel secure in your identity, and prioritize your own emotional wellbeing. Over time, therapy becomes a space to test out new ways of relating, where closeness doesn’t cost you your sense of self.

Why Clients Choose Expansive Therapy in Los Angeles for LGBTQ Codependency Therapy
Clients often come to Expansive after feeling like their past therapy experiences missed something crucial, like the way identity, survival, and relationships intersect.
Here, they feel understood without needing to justify their queerness, explain their dynamics, or shrink to fit someone else’s model of healing. Our therapists take the time to learn who you are and what shaped you, offering care that’s steady, clear-eyed, and deeply attuned to both the challenges of codependency and the resilience behind it.
There’s a reason people stay, refer friends, and return when they need support again, because this work is real and personal.

Expansive Therapy serves clients throughout California and New York, whether you're settled in one place or bouncing between boroughs and zip codes.
All our clinicians are either licensed in the states they serve or are completing licensure under supervision.
If you’re based in NYC (or anywhere in the state), you can access virtual sessions with a therapist who gets the culture, the pace, and the specific stress of city living.
And if you’re navigating a bi-coastal life — say, a partner in LA and a co-parenting setup in Brooklyn — we’re here for that, too.
