Getting Clear on What Depression Therapy Is

Getting Clear on What Depression Therapy Is

Depression therapy is a space to untangle what feels too heavy to carry alone. Here, you can build a relationship with a therapist who helps you name what’s happening, explore how it’s been shaped, and begin to feel a shift. This kind of therapy can look different for everyone, but at its core, it offers a place to be witnessed without judgment.

Depression Therapy the Expansive Way

Depression Therapy the Expansive Way

Depression Therapy the Expansive Way

Depression therapy offers structured support for people feeling stuck in low mood, low energy, or a persistent sense of disconnection from themselves or others. It’s designed to help when things like sleep, appetite, focus, or motivation start slipping, or when the heaviness doesn’t lift on its own. But that's also when therapy can become a lifeline.

You may not feel better immediately. The beginning often feels heavy. But over time, with consistency, many people see mood shifts, better daily functioning, and more room to feel more like themselves again.

What It’s Like to Begin Depression Therapy

What It’s Like to Begin Depression Therapy

"In depression therapy, your therapist helps you rebuild the parts of daily life that depression can wear down. That might include:

  • Identifying and gently shifting patterns of thought that reinforce hopelessness

  • Reworking daily routines to support rest, movement, nutrition, and connection

  • Naming the social, cultural, or personal pressures that have deepened the weight you carry

  • Learning how depression interacts with your nervous system, and building compassion for yourself in the process

This work isn’t always quick, but it’s active, supported, and tailored to where you are right now."

Understanding Patterns, Finding Healing

Depression can often bring feelings of isolation and disconnection. In this conversation, Expansive Therapy co-founder Megan Murphy and therapist Blair Bohuny explore why we sometimes push people away, and how those patterns often develop as ways to protect ourselves.

Therapy helps you approach these patterns with self-compassion, creating space to understand, heal, and build more supportive, authentic connections as part of your path toward feeling whole again.
